Abstract

Granular cell tumors correspond to a group of neoplasms that originate in the Schwann cells of peripheral nerve fibers. They usually occur between the second and sixth decades of life. These neoplasms can grow anywhere in the body, with the head and neck being the most common sites. The presence of this tumor in the abdominal wall is extremely rare, so it is important to establish a differential diagnosis and with the application of immunohistochemistry (IHC) techniques such as CD68 and S100, the diagnosis can be confirmed. His treatment of choice is complete surgical excision. In the present work, it was analyzed the case of a 66-year-old male patient with an initial diagnosis of sarcoma of the abdominal wall, which required radical resection and, through IHC, the diagnosis of a malignant granular cell tumor was reached.
